The Beatles - The Beatles 1
The Beatles 1 Review
Proving yet again their willingness to dice 'n' slice their burgeoning legacy into new--if not exactly fresh--product, the Fab Four Minus One have released this single-disc compendium of their No. 1 hits. Though obviously superfluous to the faithful (who may also find themselves quibbling over the precise definition of "No. 1 hit" and the exclusion of seeming contenders like "Please Please Me" and "Strawberry Fields"), newly arrived visitors from the Pleiades star cluster and other neophytes will find it a concise and generous (nearly 80 minutes) single-disc introduction to the band's career-spanning, unparalleled dominance of pop music in the 1960s. But beyond being a mere trophy case of commercial success (and it won't be hard to find critics who'll argue that these singles aren't even the band's best work), it's also a Cliff's Notes take on a remarkable seven-year run of musical evolution, one that stretches from the neo-skiffle of "Love Me Do" through a remarkable synthesis of R&B, rockabilly, Tin Pan Alley, gospel, country, and classical that still defies efforts to effectively deconstruct it. This is the pop monument equivalent of the '27 Yankees and '90s Bulls; it's every bit as obvious and dominating--and just as essential. --Jerry McCulley

Treasure This Album - The Beatles - 1

This is a album you must buy and treasure. It features all the number 1 hits of the Beatles. These guys basically created a new genre of music by themselves. They have great songs, like "Love Me Do," And "Eight Days A Week," songs that every Beatle fan will love. The best song on the album has to be "Yesterday," it's simply the best, with "Hey, Judy," coming in a close second. Every song on the CD is spectacular, and you'll wish that all the Beatles was still alive so you could see them live. Unfortunately, this CD is the only way to relive the Beatle's best moments, and it's a must to every Beatle collector. Paul, Ringo, George, and John have created over 20 masterpieces, and it really belongs in your collection.

Great songs, but CD very disappointing

This is no doubt a great collection by a great group, but let's be honest here, there are a few problems.

First, when are we getting a true greatest hits compilation? Where's "Do You Want to Know a Secret?", "I, Me, Mine", "In My Life", "Nowhere Man", "Here Comes the Sun", "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", "You Never Give Me Your Money", "I Saw Her Standing There", "All My Loving", "Twist and Shout", "I'll Follow The Sun" and all the other immortal songs? Sure this is only #1s, but can we please have a true greatest hits package? 1962-1966/1967-1970 did not cover all the songs either, and neither does this. The Capitol Albums vol. 1 sounds great but leaves out a lot of singles.

And another thing, can we please get some good sound quality here? Just look at Motown in the past few years who have released songs with remastering that is astounding. Why can't the Beatles get the same thing? This CD was released in the year 2000 (and techniques at the time could have had it sounding much better!), it's now 2006, and I'm still waiting for a good remastering job for the Beatles' CDs.

It's a good start, but the best band of all time deserves better than this!

So many hits, so many memories. There is a lot of positive but a lot of negative to. In my opinion i think they should have taken off from me to you because they already gave us an abundance of the beatles early hits, and added on a day in the life or across the universe, strawberry fields forever, with a little help from my friends, there are just too many to list.
Major negative: The ballad of john and yoko? Major hit?
Although i haven't come across a beatles song that i hate, other than this i find this absurd, offensive even.
Although for this hits collection they made a lot of good choices, and also a lot of poor choices. What is hello goodbye doing on this album? Yes ilike the song but i'msure they could find a better song than that. Since there are so many great songs on here doesn't let you appretiate love me do as much as you would appretiate hearing it on an album.

That was just mixed information.
Here i'll list the negative and positive of this album

- there isn't that atmosphere of what kind of songs are on the album as there is in well put together albums like rubber soul.
-Poor song choices; too many of their early hits.
+ an overall good listen
+ nice song arrangement and a great ending with the long and winding road.

= a great listen with a decent amount of songs that people with decent enough sophistication will enjoy.

Remember when listening to older bands like the beatles take into account how ground breaking their music was and it was not just slopped together like rap. Anyone who bashes the beatles needs to actually listen to them not just write biased reviews about how great their emo/rap/metal bands are.
