System of a Down Review
This debut by the L.A.-based quartet is a hybrid of explosive rap-metal, politically incendiary lyrics, and wide-ranging cultural influences. The members are of Armenian descent, but their diverse stylistic background transcends easy cultural labeling. Singer Serj Tankian's throaty roar competes with any mosh-pit rocker around, but his real trademark is his emotional wail and refreshingly melodic singing, especially on songs such as "Spiders" and the condemnatory "P.L.U.C.K." Guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan lock in tight on the capricious arrangements of "Know," "Ddevil," and "CUBErt." Their musical diversity runs wonderfully wild on "Sugar" and "Suggestions" with dizzying shifts of style and intensity. The tracks "Peephole" and "War?" reveal the band at perhaps its eclectic best, with vaguely Eastern European-sounding guitar riffs, passionate battle cries, and samples provided by legendary hip-hop producer Rick Rubin. --Mark McCleerey
suite pee 9/10 vulgar offensive rude but brilliant wacky quirky and witty the intro shows such wit it ill have you on the edge
know 8/10 a truely hard hitting number brilliant drumming a good most pit anthem malakians guitar playing has gaps and he makes good use of the space provided and filled by the drummer
11/10 sugar this song is up there with chop suey aerials byob(in my opinion is a good song but has become the song that non fans use to calssify them as system fans)toxicity roulette and many more system classics brutal humourous feels like a stampeade of elephants on speed
sugestions 10/10 i love this track the acoustic beginnig shows there ability to create atomosphere as well as hitting us with grinding riffs and heavy motifs
spiders 11/10 my favourrote on the album again up there with the classics beautiful haunting melodic epic cant find enouf words to describe it true beauty u wont hear head any of this passion in a band such as korn this is a truely passionate number
Ddevil 7/10 lyrically this song is very good a bit to over the top for me but still a good song but mainly the lyrics
soil 8/10 hard rocking number great solo good lyrics good guitar this song puts bands like slpitknot to shame has a good guiar solo in the middle
war? 9/10 system can combine different feels in a matter of seconds while some bands will feel the need to strecth a song system can shift so easily the quiet section in the middle helps the rest of the song that is repeated sound louder as he sings in the middle section you can hear him almost holding in his anger as hes about to unleash in the chorus again
peephole 9.5/10 takes a while to get started but this is one of the wackiest songs on the album sounds alot like the music would hear at a circuc system of a down have the ablilty to make you visualise things creepy disturbed visions or beautiful landscapes
cubert 8/10 this song has alot to it the verse are a tad annoying but the chorus is really in your face very catchy and the tune seems to carry alot of wit its almost poking fun at the other bands of the nu metal genre who cant wright songs in the same league its a good mosh pit number
ablunder
darts 9/10 for those of you who heard f**k the system this is simmilar in the way in witch he experiments with his voice serjs voice seems to have the cabailty do anything
with his voice its also in someways similar to the singing on shes like heroin on there most recent album except this one sounds much better the transition of his voice to his spluttered out vocals and then a blinding heavy wieght chorus
P L U C K 9.5/10 this song starts agressive and with alot of screaming very reminisant of the rest of the nu metal genra but then something ususpected happens it shifts into darons desending riff and then a verse witch as in yourface as the last 2 tracks this will really piss off the rest of the heavy metal genre the verse is very catchy even though the chorus is vaguly similar to gindcore (horrible horrible horrible horrible genre belive me im not usually a person to dismiss a genre but it is )
inspiring piece of work witch should of been hard to follow up but system of a down have risen to the challenge another for times i recommend you check out there full body of work many people who do like there most recent work however may not like this even those who are fans of toxicity all there albums are different remeber this there darkest album
