Santana - Live at the Fillmore 1968
Live at the Fillmore 1968 Review
Had this 2 CD set, recorded just prior to the band's Columbia debut in 1968, been released in the mid-'70s, it would have been a multi-platinum certainty. Today it's an object lesson in how time can turn white-hot acts into stone cold catalog filler. Pretty cool version of "Soul Sacrifice," though. --Jeff Bateman

Kind of weak....

I bought this thinking I was going to get more of the electrifying performance at woodstock...well....its not. It was recorded before powerhouse drummer Michael Shrive joined the group...and it sounds it. Its nice and pleasant but overall pretty weak.

The percussion is weak but...

As others have said there is only a drummer and a conga player, so for Santana standards, it is weak on the percussion level, but if you are a fan on the band, especially the first three albums, I think you will enjoy this album a lot. For me it is worth just for the long version of "Treat" and "Fried Neckbones" which sounds so much better than those on the bootlegs. To me this is "hippie rock" at its best, better than any Dead or Airplane I ever heard.

Every note, every tick of the cymbal can be clearly heard.
This one was recorded 3 months before the Woodstock
performance, with a different drummer. This performance
was tighter and better overall---and the quality of the
recording is wonderful. At the time of my writing this review
(Oct, 2005) the price of this disk is showing at less than
$5.00. This is a double album of HYPNOTIC music that
would be a bargin at 3x the price. Do not miss this one.
