Rod Stewart - Greatest Hits Review
It's been said that no one sold out his talent like Rod Stewart, who began his career singing Sam Cooke numbers in a way that would have impressed Sam Cooke's mother. But Stewart has always been a pop animal no matter how soulful his chops and he's often at his best when primping in front of the microphone trying to make himself sound pretty. "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" may seem ridiculous, but it's five-plus minutes of melodramatic tension, caught between self-love and self-parody. "I Was Only Joking" is Rod's warning to the world that "Hot Legs" and its ilk will soon be his modus operandi. "I Don't Want to Talk About It" and "You're in My Heart" are as sincere as he gets. --Rob O'Connor

Rod Stewart - ROCK GOD

This compilation is only a sampler of the simply awesome, mean brutish heavy metal that Rod Stewart has been hammering out from years. Coming from that same grimy working class town that produced lesser metal gods such as Black Sabbath, Stewart is all amped up on the hard rocking "Hot Legs" a tribute to well, er legs. The power ballad "Maggie May" still manages to rock out. Then there's the metal anthem "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" that Christian evangelists tried to ban. Then there's the rock ANTHEMS "You're In My Heart" and "Sailing" (not the same as the inferior Styx version) and the pulsating "I Don't Want To Talk About It." Heavy Metal Rod nearly burns his vocal chords out on the sizzling "Tonight's The Night" and then there is of course, that epic to end all epics, "The Killing of Georgie." Jimmy Page was inspired to write "Stairway" after he heard this one. True story. This greatest hits compilation is rounded out by the death metal standards "First Cut Is The Deepest" and "I was Only Joking." If you really want to rock out, get a hold of Metal Rod's latest collection of cover songs. It will blow your mind. Rock on, dudes.
