Rod Stewart - Gasoline Alley
Gasoline Alley Review
Working in what was not then called an "unplugged" format, Stewart mixed acoustic guitars, mandolin, and piano with a hard-rock attitude to create a distinctive sound that seems as fresh today as ever. Building on the success and innovations of The Rod Stewart Album, Gasoline Alley contains unfettered, laddish takes on Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" and the bluesy "Cut Across Shorty," plus a definitive version of Bob Dylan's "Only a Hobo" and the brilliant, nostalgic title track, a Stewart original. The singer is very near the top of his game here. --Daniel Durchholz

This is Rod's finest performance ever. It is quite similar sylistically to Every Picture, but, by a thin hair, surpasses that album. The quality of music here is just slightly more consistent. Everything about this album is ahead of its time. The unique blend of electric instruments and that distinctive mandolin sound is often imitated these days. This is like listening to a folkier version of the Stones with a brand new voice. If you like the Stones as much as I, than this is a good thing.

Rod and the Faces= FUN

And not just FUN; but a peek into what US bands like the Georgia Satelites and the Black Crows based there sound and full on jamfest early Brit-Rock vibe on. This album shreds and then some. A must for any rocker.
