Nickelback - The Long Road
The Long Road Review
It's never easy following up a multi-platinum success, but Canada's Nickelback's latest seem sure to match the sales of the many-million-selling Silver Side Up. The formula remains pretty much the same--nothing fancy, just radio-friendly grunge that lends an appropriately dramatic backing to the powerful and increasingly confident voice of Chad Kroeger. Aside from the fast and punchy opener "Flat on the Floor," the tough, staccato "Because of You," and the Oasis-like "Figured You Out," the band deal exclusively in soft-rock anthems (soft, that is, by 2003’s pulverizing standards). The only real change here lies is in Kroeger's lyrical concerns. Where 2000's The State found him suffering the frustrations of small-town life, now he's tortured by a heavy touring schedule that promotes destructive drug abuse and strains relationships to breaking point. That said, you can't help feeling the ruthlessly analytical Kroeger would turn a visit to the supermarket into a riot of hatred and self-recrimination. For fans of Silver Side Up, Nickelback have delivered the goods once more. --Dominic Wills

I'll admit, I liked "Silver Side Up." I would give it 3 Stars. I heard a couple of songs from "The State" (like "Leader of Men") and I plan on getting that soon. "All the Right Reasons" was a little better than most of the stuff, so I gave it 3.5 Stars. I haven't heard anything from "Curb", so I won't bother with it. But "The Long Road" is by far the worst album I've heard from Nickelback.

While the radio is beginning to grate my nerves with that god-awful "Someday" song, Nickelback could do a helluva lot better job than this. When I first heard this album, I thought it was pretty damn awesome (I was too stupid for other music back then.) But getting into stuff like Pantera & Nevermore, this CD absolutely sucks! Some of the songs are good ("Flat on the Floor" and "See You at the Show"), but the rest is pathetic in my eyes ("Someday" being the perfect example.)

This album's only saving grace is the mediocre single "Figured You Out". The rest is bad, really bad. It's as if Nickelback didn't put enough into making this album good (do they ever?) No, I don't hate Nickelback. But they can do a whole lot better than this crapwash!

BEST SONGS:
Flat on the Floor
Figured You Out
See You at the Show

WORST SONGS:
Someday
Feelin' Way Too Damn Good
Throw Yourself Away

Get "Silver Side Up" instead. It's LIGHT YEARS ahead of this "CD".

Man, i want my nickel back

This is pointless generic radio rock. If you like Chemical Romance, Simple Plan, Fallout Boy and other MTV crapola, then you'll probably enjoy playing air guitar along to this.
Pick up some good stuff like...
Korn(old stuff), Breaking Benjamin, Green Day(Warning and before), Smile Empty Soul, Lostprophets, Aerosmith, Exies, Papa Roach, Disturbed, Blindside... need i go on?

The Long Road to the Hard Rock City

Even now, at the end of 2005. The long road is one my best rock albums. Songs like Figured you out, Believe it or not, Because of you, Someday can't be lost.

That LP, doesn't remind Silver side up, Nickelback tried to make an album with more riffs in it, the perfect examble of a riff song is Because of you. Some other songs begin slowly with an acoustic guitar or even without acoustic guitar.

The song "See you at the show", is an absolutely amazing song, and the best choice to be the last song on the LP,...The meaning, the lyrics are all so cool and so the chorus is.

You will say, what's the difference from an everyday rock album?

The difference made by Chad Kroeger and his extraordinary vocals. He has an unique way to sing and he can also control his voice perfectly.

If you are a nickelback fan or a hard rock fan don't forget to buy this album.
