Most people when they think of this Scottish outfit, pretty much concur to the 'heavy stuff'-'Razamanazz', 'Miss Misery'
'Hair of the Dog' Etc. BUT never talk about their other means of music - mama's on the other side of you! This 15 'Power Ballad' collection covers a good chunk of their career, all the way from their first album - '(Country Girl') right on thru their last major release 1987's 'Cinema' which 'A Veteran's Song' is represented in this tastily produced package!
So why doesnt MAGICALLY MUSICAL aspect ever get mentioned? For one, a preconception of what bands like this ARE SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE ALL THE TIME - wrong again! Also, the consensus among the masses are that AEROSHIP 'created' AND 'invented' this kind of balladry, well again, are MOST MISTAKEN! Besides, Nazareth HAS ALWAYS been more of an eclectic unit than the above mentioned! It's a shame these songs have gotten ignored over the years, in retrospect, from the original albums that contained these sparkling gems! But now, most of them are here, together for the first, to explore AND to appreciate! (I HIGHLY DOUBT 'William' DAN McC. and the boys wouldve recorded these toons if they DIDNT appreciate other 'styles' of writing)
Favorites? There's too many to name! Though I would most definetly recommend 'Moonlight Eyes' (from 'Fool Circle'), 'Where Are You Now?' (from 'Sound Elixir')'Fallen Angel' (from 'Malice in Wonderland') and of course 'Love Leads to Madness ('2XS') - a little 4 minute slice of catchy pop heaven! One 'complaint', if there is one to be made, is that a second cd could have EASILY accompanied this 1 cd set or EVEN been part of an 'added bonus set!' In particular, 'Every Time It Rains' and 'Cover Your HEar' from 1991's 'No Jive', 'Little Part of You from 1979's 'Fool Circle' 'Fast Cars' from 1980's 'Malice in Wonderland' 'I Dont Want To Go On Without You' from 1976's 'Playin the Game, 'Nothing So Good' from 1999's 'Boogaloo' and of course the beautiful instrumental IVE heard no NAZARETH FAN ever talk about - 'The Rose In the Heather' (from 'Hair of the Dog') And it also wouldnt have hurt to include some of Dan McCafferty's solo renditions of
Neil Young's 'Cinnamin Girl' or the Glimmer Twins 'Out of Time'
or the old R&B chestnut, 'Stay With Me Baby' But IM very glad, someone had the GOOD SENSE to put together such a very very very underated collection of songs...NOW YOUR MESSIN WITH A SET OF GOOD/SOLID/SENSITIVE SONGS!!!!!
