Your latest reviews - Morton Downey : Old fashioned, sweet, romantic songs, very well done.
Morton Downey had that very high tenor that was popular in the late 20's and 30's, and his voice was as beautiful as any of them. The strings are syrupy and the sentiments are maudlin by today's cynical standards, but it makes me wish I had lived in a time when people weren't afraid to express love openly. It must have been a romantic era. The melodies are gorgeous, and the ninth song, "Love Is A Dreamer", is painfully beautiful. I am Tiny Tim's widow, and he was an expert on the music from 1890-1950. He acquainted me with many of the artists of this time, and I think this is one of the very best of the vintage pop albums that are available on CD. This was the last album Tiny listened to before he died.
