Misfits - 'Static Age' (Caroline)

Review no.88.Recorded in 1978,but not released until umteen years later.Looks to be the band's fifth effort. One could say that 'Static Age' was the definitive punk/metal cross over.Featured on this seventeen track disc are three new tunes, which are actually pretty good,"She","Spinal Remains" and "In The Doorway".Some of the other tunes I thoroughly enjoyed were the title cut "Static Age",the ass kickin' "T.V. Casualty","Teenagers From Mars" and "We Are 138".Should appeal to most fans of Black Flag,Circle Jerks,Fear,Minor Threat and The Cramps(now you're taking!).A should-have.

One of the Top 50 Albums Ever Recorded!!!

This is straight up one of the best, most raw and yet perfect Punk Rock (Heavy Emphasis on the Rock!) albums EVER put to tape... Just a prime example of what great rock song writing can do with minimal technology and the absence of the digital crutches we have now. MISFITS at their finest... One of the best places to start to discover such an influential band. From beginning to end, Static Age never let's up... perfect music for any party as well... if your friends don't like this, you may need new friends!

There really isn't anything else i can add here that will tell you anything you don't already know or what the other reviewers have already told you but i still feel compelled to write a lil' something about this.

This is THE definitive Misfits cd all recorded in the late 70's when they were still more of a Ramones + New York Dolls + Kiss + The Damned trashy rock & roll punk band as oppossed to the more hardcore Misfits you'll find on the early 80's albums. The production, as others have mentioned, is just so raw and perfectly captures what the band were doing here.

"Static age" is absolutely immense and just unstoppable as it's classic after classic. You got the trashiest, most warped primal rock band there's ever been (with the possible exceptions of The Stooges and The Cramps, of course) fronted by Elvis Munster hitting you in the face with anthem after anthem. "Last caress", "static age", "t.v casualty", "hybrid moments", "teenagers from mars", "attitude", "hollywood babylon", "we are 138", "spinal remains" and the downright incredible "bullet" all on one cd..? It really doesn't get much better than that.
