Madonna - You Can Dance
You Can Dance Review
You can dance and you probably will if you put on this 1987 compilation of the material girl's best jams. The eight-and-a-half minute "Into the Groove," remixed by Shep Pettibone, may be Madonna's single best tune and it's sure to fill the dance floor. There are only 10 tracks here, and a couple of songs get multiple remixes, but you do get "Holiday" and "Everybody," lesser known but not lesser grooves. Madonna had a few dance hits after this collection came out, and one day they'll most likely be a Madonna dance box set, but until then this will give you a fine aerobic workout. --Charles R. Cross

Madonna: You Can Dance (1987)
5
In 1987, Madonna had released her fourth album entitled, YOU CAN DANCE. This album is actually Madonna's first remix album, featuring three songs from 1983 (MADONNA), one song from 1984 (LIKE A VIRGIN), one song from 1985 (Movie), and one song from 1986 (TRUE BLUE), all of which are remixed in 12" Dance Mixes. The reason for these 12" Dance Mixes is that Madonna has always been for the dance-sounding tunes, and this was the perfect album for that, in which it also features a new song.

SPOTLIGHT
New song. The first and final single from the album, although, not released as a U.S. single. This is the only new song Madonna had recorded for the album and it's a great song. Not only because the fact that it can get you on the dance floor, but also because it tells you to reach for your goals in life.

HOLIDAY
From the album MADONNA (1983). Nothing much has changed here except that it has been given more of a groove beat and has been extended.

EVERYBODY
From the album MADONNA (1983). Nothing much has changed here, except that it has been given more of a groove beat, has been re-arranged in the verses, refrains, & choruses, and has been extended.

PHYSICAL ATTRACTION
From the album MADONNA (1983). Nothing much has changed here, except that it has only been given more of a groove beat.

OVER AND OVER
From the album LIKE A VIRGIN Nothing much here, except that the beginning has been modified, with the addition of a groovier beat and extended.

INTO THE GROOVE
From the original motion picture DESPERATLEY SEEKING SUSAN (1985). Not much of a change here, but given a lot of special remix effects, especially in the vocal arrangements.

WHERE'S THE PARTY
From the album TRUE BLUE (1986. Not much here, but given more ad-libs and groovier beats, while also being extended.

This album is the first of two remix albums Madonna would put out and this is a great start. If you want to here you early favorite Madonna songs remixed into 12" Dance Remix format, then buy this album, put it on, and dance. Come on, she's waiting.
