That the divine Ms. S could not get this CD released is strong testimony to the decline of the US music market. The women has pipes that put 90% of the popular divas to shame! while I continue to lament her production team (this kind of voice deserves more than a keyboard equivalent of drums, bass, string and horns, get this woman together with a real producer!) which, I feel, lowers the aural enjoyability of her CDs (thump thump bass drum, not a natural sound to be heard other than her marvelous vocal interpretations) I continue to find myself listening intently, eyes closed, to her singing. 3 or 4 really goods songs per CD is fine with me, almost everything here is worth listening to and, as I said, 3 or 4 are reall keepers. long live Lisa Stansfield, and someone hear my plea for a record company to grab her and raise her up where she belongs; at the pinnacle of the music business, giving enjoyment to millions.

Pretty good offering from Lady Elegance

This is not Lisa's finest moment but it certainly contains songs that, in their own right, are poised for future classic status. "I've Got Something Better" is one of Lisa's best uptempo tracks ever , and that's saying something! "Let's Just Call it Love" is also very good, it's driving 2step beat will keep you dancing! Otherwise "You Can Do That" and "Face Up" are also worth listening to. "8-3-1" is good enough, although not my choice for a second single. "Candy" and "Boyfriend" could have used some more work. Either way, Lisa's voice's strong enough to blow you away... it gets 4 stars from me.

SOLID OUTING

After skimming over a few reviews-I honestly don't understand what the fuss is about, or why I waited this long to grab this album. Though this doesn't cover a lot of new terrain (with the exception of the single Let's Just Call It Love), if it ain't broken, what's there to fix? Lisa Stansfield does what she does best, create atmospheric, solid pop diddies that stick in the head and come across as being sincere, clever, and completely melodious. She truly puts her American counterparts to shame - it's hard to find many vocalists even closely approaching Lisa's caliber of talent, but even more importantly, her obvious passion! This is a very very strong outing-she delivers the goods here and this isn't so different than her last two albums aside from the fact that she doesn't weigh this down with a lot of maudlin sap. She hasn't strayed from her high standards of quality; well written & produced pop---so happy to have NOT listened to some of the other reviewers! I feel this is her most consistent work and some of her best songs that she's recorded---check out DIDN'T I...breathtaking and truly brilliant.
