Joni Mitchell - Blue
Blue Review
Joni Mitchell would go on from this '71 recording to make more popular, more ambitious, and more challenging albums, but she's never made a better one. Working with minimal accompaniment (Stephen Stills and James Taylor are two of the four sidemen), the Canadian thrush summoned an involving song cycle of romance found and lost. Though Blue is an uncommonly intimate representation, it's also astonishingly open and gracious. Songs such as "All I Want," "Carey," "California," and "A Case of You" work equally well as poetry and pop music. --Steve Stolder

There is no happier way to be sad than this album! One of the artists' best.

very weak musically

I think this album more than any Joni Mitchell album shows how weak she is musically and no sense of rythym whatsoever. She just seems to show off her vocal range within these songs and everything just seems disjointed and out of balance. If there is anyone out there that agrees with this, I'd liketo hear from you.By the way I love Court and Spark. It had more cohesive song arrangments and the vocals melted into the music.

I think that this is one of the most hauntingly beautiful albums I have ever heard. I love her poetry and weird lyrics that jump from everyday conversation to these deep deep places in the heart. It hurts to listen to this stuff but its also incredibly euphoric at the same time.Melodies that go where they want to go with highs and lows constantlly surprising you. The song River is my favorite cause its so sad.
