The John Coltrane Box Set "In Europe," is a rare gem. The Material on this set spans between November 61 to July of 65. The amount of musical changes that are represented in this set are grand. The Highlights of the set include the version of "my Favorite Things" with eric Dolphy on flute, the Selections of Standards on Disc 2 and the only known recording of "A Love Supreme" recorded Live that I know of. This performance is complete at 48:00 minutes long and is not included in the new Pablo John Coltrane Europe box set. This set is definately worth the wait.... Eric Dolphy's performances with Coltrane's quartet rank as some of his most powerful. Dolphy is featured on alto sax as well as flute, and it becomes obvious that Dolphy was getting into the sound that Coltrane was searching for at this time. While Dolphy's playing on the Village Vanguard sets along side Coltrane are strong, the selections from the European tour are transcendent.

Wow! This is a treasure for any Coltrane fan. Over three hours of music, classic quartet in excellent form, a chance to hear Coltrane grow and evolve from 61-65, and all at an incredible price! Recording quality is generally very good as well. I'm sure most fans would pay $16 for just one of these discs... amazing. In addition, you don't need to invest in Stockholm '61 if you're willing to pass up one song, since 3 of the 4 songs are included here. First rate!
