Jim Morrison - An American Prayer
An American Prayer Review
The Doors recorded six studio albums with Jim Morrison as their singer from 1967 to 1971, hitting the charts with a series of pop songs that were at least as good as Tommy James and the Shondells. On their albums, they indulged in Morrison's pretentious obsessions that included extended pieces about Oedipal complexes and the end of the world. Those obsessions have been exaggerated by The Doors myth that continues to this day. This is a collection of Morrison's poetry, embellished by the surviving Doors several years after the fact. That the live rendition of "Roadhouse Blues" is the only noteworthy selection should tell you what you need to know about the poetry. --Rob O'Connor

First off, the Doors are one of the greatest bands ever (in my opinion they ARE the best) and Jim Morrison was not known completly as a poet but as a rock star this album is where he turns that in a complete 180. Jim actually only talked into a microphone but then The Doors added in music, Jim actually didn't intend for that, he meant this to be all him (the album of course). But what I don't get is that he always talks about c0cks with is pretty disturbing, i mean really couldn't Jim have left that out? Also, he says cun+ like 10 times on this thing... take it down a tat I mean honestly, but it IS Jim so 5 STARS!

People do not give Jim Morrison the credit he deserves as a poet and it really bothers me. This album proves how brilliant this man really was. This is one of my favorite albums (and in my opinion) the album to own if you're a Morrison fan. Even if you're not,you will be after this.

My Favorite Doors CD

I love this CD. I first listened to it about 15 years ago. I'd be walking my dog Aussie along the railroad tracks and stop to look up at the stars while Jim Morrison recited poems with an excellent score by the Doors. It is probably the first audio book ever made.
