James Taylor - Jt
Jt Review
This album captures the many moods of James Taylor. Best remembered for its seductively laid-back remake of "Handy Man" and the uptempo "Your Smiling Face," JT also swings hard toward unhappiness on "Bartender's Blues" (quickly covered by George Jones) and "Another Grey Morning." Despite the generally romantic tone, two of the most striking tracks are lovely and quite ambivalent: "Looking for Love on Broadway" and "If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight" seem worried at the thought of a connection actually working out. --Rickey Wright

Quintessential James Taylor

Here he reveals the secret of life in a melodic message only James can concoct. And damn that traffic jam, its all I sing on I-94. You gotta hear this if JT has ever appealed to you.

This is my FAVORITE JT album... and I have many!

This album consist of about five or six tracks that you just can't stop listening to. From the insightful "Secret O' Life" to the ever-so enchanting "If I Keep My Heart Out Of Sight," JT delivers an always emotional, honest performance. It's not very often that you find an album that you can let play through its entirety. The majority of the album is so good, I can even forgive him for "Honey Don't You Leave L.A."

James Taylor at his pinnacle...

Riding the immense success of "James Taylor's Greatest Hits", James Taylor comes back with yet another gem in "JT". Right off the bat, "Your Smiling Face" is a really wonderful and upbeat dedication to his daughter Sally. "There We Are" expresses his true love for Carly Simon (at the time) and I would sing the same thing to any woman that I was in love with. "Honey Don't Leave L.A." is a really cool rock 'n' roll type tune. "Another Grey Morning" and "Bartender's Blues" are generally uneventful, but "Secret O' Life" is another of JT's masterpieces. Excellent guitar work on this piece and sweet lyrics make this one of my favorites. "Handy Man" is a wonderful cover of an older song, and "I Was Only Telling A Lie" is a surprisingly OK song (I was expecting less). "Looking For Love on Broadway" is a good song about trying to find love (like I am) and "Terra Nova" is the one of the best JT-Carly Simon duets I've heard. "Traffic Jam" is kinda humorous, and "If I Keep My Heart Out of Sight" is probably my favorite song of the album. Being a teenager without love, and afraid of scaring the girls away, this song truly touches how I feel about certain young women. As he sings, "Tonight could be my lucky night, and you could be mine..." I've yet to have that "lucky night". Overall, a James Taylor masterpiece, very much worth listening to!
