Review of Il Divo : Il Divo
Debut album by 'opera boyband' put together by the king of manufactured pop, Simon Cowell. This features popular arias, classical crossover pop and opera versions of pop standards - including Toni Braxton's 'Unbreak My Heart' - in much the same vein as Tony Henry, Josh Groban and Amici Forever. Syco. 2004.

Users's Reviews - Il Divo : Talent? yes . Too much? yes, yes, yes!
The voices from these guys individually are spectacular. But this cd just doesn't work for me at all. Nada - zip - zero.

Between the beefcake in the manicured-mannequin-man look and the cheesey song selections here - you get not much more than a cheeseburger.

There is something so completely over-the-top about this set of tracks. "Feelings" can be a mawkishly cheeky song but interpretted by not one but more and then MORE powerful voices is just overwhelmingly rich to a point of nausea.

If they toned it down and didn't force the intensity or sound like they were competing with one another it might have rendered a more elegant and less overwrought, corny production. Deafening decibel pop seems to be a mismatch with their talent and they do not sing well together.

"The Three Tenors" sound and look more balanced and organic. Il Divo sounds and looks too silicone for my taste. Far better choices to consider are: Joshua Payne's - "Your Heart My Home" which is softer but Payne still showcases his classically trained voice beautifully; Josh Groban's debut cd - "Josh Groban" is a genuine and delectable release of classically trained vocals with lovely melodies; and Andrea Bocelli's "Andrea" is also a better choice because he includes some wonderful pop tracks but doesn't try to fit his gorgeous square peg voice in a round box of pop"corn".

Now, I'm hungry, but not for more of these Divo dudes.
Your latest reviews - Il Divo : IL Divo Gift Set
I can't get enough listening to this excellent combination of Il Divo's original platinum CD and their most recent The Christmas Collection. Just close your eyes and your are transported to one of the best musical experiences which may even top that of The Three Tenors!! The musical arrangements, songs, and the simple beauty of their four voices and breathtaking musical accompaniment to each song just transport the listener to another world. Check out Il Divo's site to listen to excerpts of each of their songs (as I originally did once I saw them on the Martha Stewart show recently) and you will be sold on them without reading another word from me!!
