Review of George Mgrdichian : One Man's Passion George Mgrdichian, America's oud virtuoso performs with some of the finest musicians in New York. This album is the perfect Middle Eastern instrumental album featuring traditional music and inspirational "taksim" playing by the musicians. Created initially for an Arab sheik who heard George perform at a concert several years ago. The sheik enjoyed George's sound and commissioned him to make an album of ancient Arabic folklore songs with a heavy jazz influence. Unfortunately, the sheik died before hearing the finished recording. The result of one man's passion for music is this album. A must for George Mgrdichian fans!

With "On the Oud" Mgrdigian set a standard for american traditional armenian oud music. Accompanied by Menachem Dworman's functional guitar, Mgrdigian presents a beautiful collection of traditional dances and romantic melodies by armenian composers. Mgrdigian has a clear and punctual style that accentuates the tonal qualities of the magical oud. In it's genre, only John Bilezikjian's "Music from the Armenian Diaspora" can compete with this record.
