Two masters feeding off each other brilliantly

I can't believe no one has reviewed this albumn yet! This is a vastly underplayed, underheard and underappreciated album. Stephan Grappelli--former partner of Django--is the greatest jazz violinist ever (although, Regina Carter seems to be giving him a run for the money. Grappelli is his usual brilliant self on this "Encounter".

But what makes this album special is the amazing creative energy between Grappelli and Burton. This album comes in Burton's fusion period--but is anything but. Just straight ahead traditional jazz from two masters. When I first heard this on the radio in college, I ran out and bought the album the same day...and haven't regreted it for a day since. Even friends who are not jazz fans love it, but it is a jazz albumn, make no mistake about it. If these two ever do (did) a follow up, let me know and I'll be first in line to buy that one too!

After spending years listening to this album on a bootleg cassette, Label M, has dug into the Atlantic Records vaults and released this little gem on CD.
