Review of G. Lee & Jet Blonde : Charm
This record is a collection of G. Lee's best songs to date - great production, performance, harmonies, song arrangements. G. Lee has been compared to Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, Jonatha Brooke, Lisa Loeb, and other contemporary "modern rock" female singer-songwriters. Her lyrics vary from joyous to humorous to dark and mysterious, and everyone can find something to relate to in many of her songs. The sitar and vina on "I Will Escape" add an element of "eastern" sound to the song and it grabs you right off the bat. "(Worse Than A) Slow Death" has an almost hip-hop feel mixed with jazz elements and thick harmonies. Some of the songs on this record were rather "Beatles-influenced" (listen to the harmonies on "Matters", for example). G. Lee's new songs are in keeping with the honesty and lack of pretention found on her first CD - "Crashing Into Your Room", also available through Amazon.com. If you liked "Crashing", you'll like "CHARM" even better!
