Further Seems Forever - How to Start a Fire
How to Start a Fire Review
Just two albums in, and Further Seems Forever seems destined to be known as the band that launched Chris Carrabba’s solo career. Too bad. The Dashboard Confessional frontman may have provided the vocals for the band’s debut, The Moon Is Down, but with newly recruited singer Jason Gleason, the Florida band has developed into a dynamic unit, imbuing its hardcore roots with thoughtful lyrics and incredibly elaborate song structures. How to Start a Fire showcases a set of well crafted, expertly played rock tunes, particularly the inspirational title track, "Pride War," and "Insincerity as an Art Form." The band would probably shudder at the thought of being labeled the emo Genesis, but it’s honestly a compliment to Further Seems Forever’s precision guitar work and dramatic flair. --Aidin Vaziri

Incredible - not emo - not any genre - just AMAZING

This is by far the most underrated album ever created in modern rock. It is highly experimental, using a lot of distortion, the bass, the twanging layered guitars, the beautiful melodic screaming interchanged with singing (NOT ECHO SCREAMING, this is a MUCH better method, think glassjaw). Think sunny day real estate fused with glassjaw.

The lyrics. Oh my god. These lyrics are HIGHLY poetic, they are beautiful, they will inspire you, and they will ignite you, incite you. I am not kidding. Let me repeat. This is by far the most underrated album in all of modern rock.

The musicianship is incredible. The bass, the guitars, the drums, and the VOCALS are by far the standout here. Jason Gleason has one of the most beautiful screams in rock. Check him out, he sings for ActionReaction now, but this stuff is by far him at his very prime.

If you are a lover of rock at all, of beautiful lyrics, and just overall good music, I cannot through words express how good this album is. Pick it up. Every song is highly experimental, and just plain amazing.

I personally liked this album much better than The Moon is Down. You can clearly see the over all tone of the band changing and the new lead singer compliments this very nicely. What I loved about this album is the over all mood that it creates. The flow of the songs on the album is near flawless. The songs however well they may flow still have a unique sound. My favorites being How to Start a Fire and Pride War.

Also I hope that you're not turned off by the fact that this is a Christian rock band. I had owned the CD for about a month before one of my friends told me (hey they swear in one of their songs). I say that if you liked The Moon is Down, or Dashboard pick this album up you won't be disappointed.

As unique as their title

How to start a Fire, at first listen, sounded like a lot of guitar and someone screaming in the background. I must've been crazy. i have since fallen in love with this cd and this band. Having a completely different feel from Dashboard, this group's unique sound is easy to fall in love with, and their lyrics are refreshingly poetic. The sound isn't too heavy, but it has enough distortion to keep you satisfied. The experimentation of sounds is ingenius and alluring and the vocals are phenomenal (not surprisingly). Almost every song will be a favourite! (especially track #7 :P)
