Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage Acts 1-2-3
Joe's Garage Acts 1-2-3 Review
The Central Scrutinizer is out to protect you from the harmful effects of that horrible force called music. Such is the premise of Joe's Garage, Frank Zappa's three-act concept album which explores the world of groupies, governments, sex toys, and Catholic school girls. As always, Zappa's aim is true and his scope wide, following Joe (voiced by his long-time co-conspirator, Ike Willis) as he starts a band, loses his girl, falls in love with a robot, and tries to find his true place in society. Filled with catchy classics ("Catholic Girls" "Crew Slut") and blazing guitar work ("Keep it Greasy," "Watermleon in Easter Hay"), this is the sort of schmorgasbord of imagination and artistry that only Zappa could produce. --Andrew Boscardin

My first Zappa experience

This was my first Zappa record. A long, long time ago I picked out this album from a bin of Zappa records, mainly because I thought the long running times of the songs (Packard Goose runs at 11:38) was so very cool. So when I finally listened to it, any conventional thoughts of my mind were quickly dispensed with. This was the album that popped my Zappa cherry, as some other reviewers have put it, and man, it's one of Zappa's most insane recordings. Lyrically bizarre as hell, great story, great solos, etc., etc.. Brilliant stuff. Leave your tiny mind in the dustbin. Let Zappa take you over. And then you'll be a better person....

Great Music With Fabualous Humour & Flow. "Fembot In A Wet T-Shirt" is the best song and is just a riot straight out & no one can say it's not out of this world.

"Music Is The Best" - Frank Zappa

Joe's Garage (the song) is outstanding. Listen to the closing chorus on 'Packard Goose'. 'Dong Work For Yuda' is brilliant, and you can literally feel Joe's anguish on Watermelon In East Hay. There's silly stuff here, but there are also moments of musical genius, harmonies and guitar work that make your hair stand on end. But don't let your mother catch you listening to it. Zappa pulls no punches. It's obscene, funny, gross, sad, startling, and crude. But it has licks of some of the best music ever recorded.
