Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention - One Size Fits All
One Size Fits All Review
The pinnacle of his jazz-rock work of the early '70s, One Size Fits All boasts some of the most memorable songs of Frank Zappa's career performed by one of the most beloved Mothers of Invention lineups ever assembled. This cast of musicians' musicians--including George Duke, Ruth Underwood, and Johnny 'Guitar' Watson--blasts through the groovy sci-fi world of Inca Roads, the hyper-charged blues rock of "Pajama People," the lounge majesty of "Sofa" and concert mainstays like "San Ber'dino" and "Florentine Pogan." An integral part of any Zappa Collection. --Andrew Boscardin

Frank Zappa was arguably the most original composer of the modern-age. No musician has anything on him. All virtuosos and composers today only wish they have one-tenth the creativity and talent Frank Zappa did. What I respect the most about Frank Zappa was that he dared to investigate the limits and boundaries of music more than anyone before him or since. However, I never really thought of him as an expert in writing lyrics. I thought he was a much better musician and composer than he was a song writer.

That being said, One Size Fits All is one of the best lyric albums Frank made in my opinion. The album is great from start to finish. I highly recommend ANY Frank Zappa album over 99% of music released since 2000 and definitely more so than music you hear on MTV or Top 40.

5 BILLION STARS to THE POWER OF 5 BILLION STARS!!!!!
Verily, I say unto you, this album is a miracle! This one's in my top 3 of best albums ever made! This is an album of rock/bluegrass/prog/fusion/punk/world-music/space-rock/pop/classical/torch-song/heavy metal/EVERY-ROCK and not served up piece-meal a la White Album and every other band would try, but all at the same time! A dense, yet crystal-clear creation of such power! such melodiousness! such intelligence! such humour! - No wonder Zappa couldn't stand the religious and dogma wielding zealouts of all gang members who declare themselves: "I'm White I'm Black! I'm prog! I'm garage! I'm Christian! I'm Muslim! I'm American Idol material! I'm satanic Heavy Metal Shredding! I'm this! I'm that: endless opposition creating endless trouble!" This man had the musical mind of God him/herself! If God composed an album of music it would be this! And if you don't like Zappa because of his profanity/schatology and his penchant for themes anal, there is none of that there. Zappa must have known that God was proud of what his little boy Zappa was doing here and kept it clean, yet still scathing in its sarcasm. This album is so amazing, so beautiful, (it's making me write like a madman in a feeble attempt to tell people of its greatness.) I've got thousands of albums, but if somebody said "it's all those or One Size Fits All! Which do you give up, so that, perhaps, we'll let you live?" I'd say, take all the others, and leave me "One Size Fits All". Thank you Mr Zappa! The day that you died, my life has been a bit more of a drudgery since, and the world has certainly become "dumb all over, and" very "ugly on the side." This album should be required listening at all schools the world over and students should be tested on its contents - only then we might be able to save the world and its Art!

One Size fits All is one of Uncle Frank's finest moments. Along with his 'Mother's of Invention', FZ captures the ultimate fusion between jazz, rock, and Zappa's special blend of comedy and biting humor.

It's been many years, but I believe this may be the first exposure to Zappa I ever had and I've never looked back. Po'jama People had me hooked. Only Frank can write this kind of subject matter. He is so sorely missed by his fans. Can't Afford no Shoes is another catchy number that you'll catch yourself singing as are stopped at a red light. The people next to you will think you're nuts.

The song this album is most known for is probably San Berdeno. It's a great tune about a girl in love with the boy from the rodeo. His name is Bobby and he looks like a potato. If you have never heard this song (or this album), you are missing out on a wonderful experience. Some people cannot handle Franks 20 minute instrumentals, but this album is great for people with shorter attention spans. Inca Roads is an instrumental, but it's more radio friendly than some of his other works.

All in all, if you are new to Frank Zappa I highly recommend this album before venturing out deeper into more complicated works like Joe's Garage or Thing Fish.
