Everclear - Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude
Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude Review
If scientists strived to merge crunchy, hook-heavy pop-rock-punk and the super-shiniest production techniques this side of Smashing Pumpkins, the result would probably sound exactly like Everclear's Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time for a Bad Attitude. It's a hit-or-miss outing. On the one hand, it's a step up from the tepid Songs from an American Movie, Vol. 1, and it takes the boys back to the loose but mighty muscularity that made Sparkle and Fade such a delight. Art Alexakis and company take some chances, like the funky groove of "Babytalk" and the ballad to bombast and back again of "Out of My Depth." On the minus side, the production is so slick that there's no friction, and rock music without friction is like, well, like large chunks of this Attitude. Definitely a mixed bag from Everclear. --Jason Josephes

Everclear is one of those bands that you listen to, and you know exactly what you're gonna get. Their 3-chord pseudo-grunge brand of rock is a patented sound for them. which is why when i first bought this cd, i was flipped upside down. This is not typical everclear music. it's louder, harder and deeper than any previous efforts. the loud spots rock louder, the touching parts touch deeper, the record is an emotional rollercoaster that is both tounge in cheek ('babytalk') and deeply sincere ('the good witch of the north') from start to finish. if this record isnt in your collection, it should be. if it is, you already know exactly what i'm talking about.

A decent attempt

Let me start off by saying that I own this CD and I will still occasionally listen to it, an dit really is not that bad of a CD. Now to why it only got three stars.

I've heard so many people say that this is by far the hardest stuff Everclear has done, until I get them to hear Sparkle and Fade or World of Noise. This CD is lacking that edge, most of the songs are angry, however I never really feel the anger.

While not a bad CD, it is still a pop album, no way around that fact. If you're looking for some good hard rock, then go get a copy of World of Noise, or Sparkle and Fade, those are two of the best albums I personally think ever put out. If you are more into So Much for the Afterglow, or Songs From an America Movie Vol. 1 style music you should really love this album.

I have to start out by saying that everclear is my favorite band, and has been for a good six years now. I read these reviews of people saying 'it's just like sparkle and fade' or 'everclear's getting to the top.' no offense to those of you who wrote these things, but everclear is running out of juice. they still manage to do some good things like 'overwhelming,' but it's nowhere near the levels they were at with 'so much for the afterglow' and 'sparkle and fade.' if you want the real, true everclear rocking out, pick up 'world of noise.' again, this isn't a bad cd, but it's far from everclear's best.
