By this time, Eminem no longer needs the money that comes from his albums. He does it for the fans. Well, this album, like most other mainstream rap albums of 2004-05, is disappointing. The shock factor that Eminem's albums usually bring is gone. This is nothing special. I like Eminem, personally, but this album is a huge disappointment after years of listening to the classics that I have come to expect from this phenomenal artist. Here is a track by track review.
1. Curtains Up- A skit, intro type thing.
2. Evil Deeds- Usual complaints. Mom and Dad, and his hard childhood. This subject material has been exhausted. 6/10
3. Never Enough Feat. 50 Cent & Nate Dogg- Probably one of the best songs of the album. 50, who I generally dislike, actually delivers a memorable verse, and Em kills his verse, making you press repeat again and again. 10/10
4. Yellow Brick Road- Em's response to the accusations from The Source. I'm not a big fan of this one, but most seem to like it. 7/10
5. Like Toy Soldiers- Another standout song on the album. Em tells his side to the Murder Inc. beef. The video is amazing. It's a touching song, and Em balances his anger with his sadness to create something special. 10/10
6. Mosh- Not a big fan of this one. Don't like Bush, but this song is probably one of the worst Bush disses ever made. If you want something like this that's done well, check out Immortal Technique. 5/10
7. Puke- This sucks. Go listen to "Kim." 3/10
8. My 1st Single- Again, this fails. I have no idea what this song is about. 3/10
9. Paul (Skit)- These were never really that funny.
10. Rain Man- Pretty funny, but makes no sense whatsoever. 7/10.
11. Big Weenie- Good beat that's wasted. 4/10.
12. Em Calls Paul (Skit)- What's with the voice?
13. Just Lose It- Not a big fan of this one. Video's pretty funny, but this is Em's worst single. 6/10
14. A** Like That- Funny as hell, but no purpose to this song. 8/10
15. Spend Some Time Feat. Obie Trice, Stat Quo, & 50 Cent- This song is Eminem trying to make a love type song. Doesn't work. Eminem is out of his field here. Obie, Stat Quo, and 50 deliver some weak lines. 5/10
16. Mockingbird- Another one of the best songs on the album. Amazingly profound and a song to his daughter. 10/10
17. Crazy In Love- Terrible. 1/10
18. One Shot 2 Shot Feat. D-12- This song is pretty damn cool. 8/10.
19. Final Thought (Skit)- A closing skit.
20. Encore Feat. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent- Not really a big fan of this one either, but Dre's presence in this song is enough to give this song a 7/10. At the end, he shoots everyone in the crowd.
