Dusty's Return

This is Dusty's 1978 album IT BEGINS AGAIN, aptly titled since this was her first album since CAMEO. She endured a lot of personal problems in between albums but this album was her return to music. The album received a wide variety of promotion yet did not do much to help the album. However it is a stunning collection of songs, with beautiful vocals all around from Dusty. The album opens with "Turn Me Around" which had been previously recorded for her album LONGING in 1974, which was never released. One of my favorites is the breezy "I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love" ready for radio, but never released, its a wonderful track. Her cover of Martha & the Vandellas' "A Love Like Yours" is subpar but still enjoyable. She turns in an excellent rendition of Barry Manilow's "Sandra", about a woman who is an alcoholic housewife, very tragic and beautiful song. Some other highlights include Nona Hendrix's "Checkmate", her foray into disco on "That's The Kind of Love I Got For You", the MOR "Hollywood Movie Girls", and the upbeat "I Found Love With You". The album overall suffers slightly from sounding too polished, but its an album that you should not miss in Dusty's catalog.

WHEN "IT BEGIN'S AGAIN" CAME OUT I WAS IN 7TH HEAVEN AND FELT THAT FINALLY DUSTY WAS GOING TO GET HER JUST DUE IN THE UNITED STATES WITH THIS INCREDIBLE COLLECTION!!! THIS IS VOCAL PERFECTION FROM START TO FINISH AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GRAMMY WINNER!!! BUT DUSTY WAS LET DOWN BY SHOCKING INDIFFERENCE FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND THE RADIO PROGRAMMERS FOR REASONS THAT WILL NEVER BE UNDERSTOOD BY THOSE OF US WHO KNOW THAT THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME TALENT WAS ONE OF THE FINEST EVER AND THIS IS A GREAT COLLECTION THAT REALLY HAD AT LEAST SEVERAL "HITS" ON IT BUT NOW AT LEAST HAS FINALLY SEEN THE LIGHT OF DAY ON COMPACT DISC!!! YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN STORE FOR A REALLY INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE FROM THE OPENER "TURN ME AROUND" WHERE DUSTY IS AT HER SOULFUL AND HYPNOTIC BEST!!! NEXT IS THE NONA HENDRYZ "CHECKMATE" WHICH IS A STIRRING ROCKER THAT FEATURES A REALLY INTENSE DUSTY VOCAL THAT HITS WONDERFULLY GREAT HEIGHTS!! OTHER FEATURED ROCKERS ARE THE WILD LATIN RHYTHM ROCKER "THAT'S THE KIND OF LOVE I FEEL FOR YOU" (ALSO THE SMOKING 12" EXTENDED MIX!) AND THE EXUBERANT "I FOUND LOVE WITH YOU" AND THE MOTOWN CLASSIC "A LOVE LIKE YOURS" WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG HIT!!! THE PETER ALLEN CLASSIC "I'D RATHER LEAVE WHILE I'M IN LOVE" IS THE DEFINITIVE VERSION HERE WHICH ALSO SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED AS A SINGLE THAT WOULD HAVE TAKEN DUSTY TO THE TOP OF THE CHARTS-IT'S THAT GREAT!!! BARRY MANILOW'S "SANDRA" IS MADE INTO A HAUNTING CLASSIC HERE AND "HOLLYWOOD MOVIES GIRL'S" IS A FASCINATING EXPOSE ON THE WAY MANY ACTING HOPEFUL'S HIT A DEAD-END IN HOLLYWOOD. ROUNDING OUT THIS GREAT COLLECTION IS A REALLY EARTHY AND SOUL-BARING PERFORMANCE THAT IS UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER HEARD BEFORE AND HAVE NOT HEARD SINCE!! "LOVE ME BY NAME" IS CHILLING AND HAUNTING AND ONE OF THE MOST EMOTIONALLY DEVASTATING PERFORMANCES THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD ANY SINGER DO. RECENTLY I PLAYED IT FOR A FRIEND WHO EXCLAIMED AT IT'S END "SHE TOTALLY LETS YOU INSIDE OF HER SOUL!!" AND I FELT THAT PRETTY WELL DESCRIBES THE EXPERIENCE!! I WORE OUT SEVERAL VINYL COPIES OF THIS CLASSIC AND I AM SO HAPPY TO NOW HAVE IT SOUNDING THE WAY IT SHOULD ON COMPACT DISC AND IT IS ONE NOT TO MISS!!!! WE WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER CLOSE TO THE BRILLIANCE OF THIS WONDERFUL SINGER WHO LEFT US WAY TOO SOON!!! I MISS DUSTY BUT I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE TREASURES SUCH AS THIS THAT SHE LEFT FOR US TO ENJOY!!!! ENJOY!!!!!!
