Ocean's Eleven Review
The idea of remaking the Rat Pack's infamous shaggy-dog story cum Vegas heist thriller may have seemed ludicrous without a Rat Pack. But that didn't deter ever-inventive director Steven Soderbergh, who's again wisely teamed with not only Out of Sight star George Clooney, but that underrated project's Irish-born club mixer turned scorer David Holmes, as well. The resulting soundtrack is a spunky, cross-cultural joyride that careens from Perry Como's "Papa Loves Mambo" to the loopy hip-hop of Handsome Boy Modeling School's "The Projects," while paying some gratifying visits to Percy Faith, Arthur Lyman, Quincy Jones, the terminally cool Claude Debussy, and, of course, King Elvis along the way. Holmes's own concoctions are as smartly retro-hip and seamless, slyly intertwining cool jazz-funk and smoky cine-Muzak with some dance-floor grooves that keep the musical tension boiling. The sharp dialogue snippets that bubble throughout seem a quirky throwback to soundtracks gone by, a sometimes oversized olive in Holmes's inviting musical cocktail. --Jerry McCulley

"Ocean's Eleven" is one of those few movie soundtracks worth having. The disc features an eclectic blend of music with the unifying theme of hipness. The CD is as cool as the movie. The hit is of course "A Little Less Conversation" which became the theme song to the NBC show "Las Vegas." The exposure eventually dethroned "Viva Las Vegas" as the city's choice Elvis tune. Very few soundtracks have made such an impact. Under the general umbrella of jazz, the disc features lounge, acid jazz, big band and even orchestral music. It has a choice blend of swaggering vintage sounds and sophisticated modern music. At the same time, the album finds balance between time tested classics and original music created for the Ocean's Eleven project. The disc will have high appeal to instrumental enthusiasts. While the soundtrack would be stronger without some of the film's dialogue, such a product wouldn't be difficult to create in the day and age of CD-R burners. "Ocean's Eleven" is a hip journey worth taking.

Excellent, certainly helps if you've seen and like the movie

Its brilliant David Holmes' tunes all really rough and sketchy but really catchy and exciting. I particularly like Handsome Boy Modelling School tune (track 3). And also the penultimate track Clair de Lune by the Philedelphia Orchestra send shivers down your spine. As you might have noticed this soundtrack has such a wide variety genres and is truely a brilliant album. As i said if you have seen and enjoyed the movie it will make this soundtrack even better (I've seen it 4 times).
Ohe and as for the people moaning about the speech, its not very often and not for too long but i particularly enjoy it it kind of adds to the atmosphere of the soundtrack and it doesnt compensate songs for speech it has just as much music as any normal cd or soundtrack.

Just buy it and bring The Oceans 12 soundtrack!!!

P.S yes i know the grammar sucks!

I held off buying this soundtrack, as I'd read so many crap reviews which said that the CD has too much dialogue from the movie, and this wrecks the CD. I also read a review somewhere (?) which led me to believe that none of the tracks on this CD were full length versions, merely short versions which faded out after about half the song / piece..well I'm glad I didnt listen!!

I love this CD!! If you love Oceans Eleven the movie, partly becuase you love the soundtrack - you'll love this CD!! There's not as much dialogue as you gather from some bad reveiws, and what there is of it, isnt that bad, it seems to help bring in the vibe of the movie, not hinder. All music is played in full. I love having this CD on in the background when Im relaxing, cause I loved it so much when watching the movie, its great just to be able to put a CD on and let it play!!

LOVE IT! All I can say is, if you dont like the bit of movie dialogue on this CD, and that stops you from playing this CD, you cant like the music too much to begin with!!
