Dan Fogelberg - First Christmas Morning
First Christmas Morning Review
Dan Fogelberg's first Christmas album is a smartly informed collection of familiar holiday hymns, carols, and deliciously original music inspired by the Renaissance period. The standard interpretations such as "I Saw Three Ships" and "O Tannenbaum" prove satisfying and enjoyable. "At Christmas Time," a Fogelberg original, sounds as if it were lifted from Dickens's A Christmas Carol, while the peaceful and bright "Winterskol" and other simple guitar pieces make The First Christmas Morning a truly great holiday find. Extra points to Fogelberg for unearthing such beautiful music as the 15th-century carol "This Endris Night." Recommended. --Martin Keller

Up there with Bing and Judy...

I've had this CD for three years - I caught a segment of Dan on Live with Regis one day, believe it or not, and I was thrilled just to see him again. He'd been a favorite singer of mine "in the old days," and his voice was still the same. (Plus, he's still really cute!) So I bought the CD. I'm a big fan of Bing Crosby (White Christmas) and Judy Garland (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas) but Dan's Christmas CD is loved equally in my home at Christmas time. Read the liner notes - it's fascinating. Dan Fogelberg is a true artist and musician.

Not your Average Christmas CD

Are you tired of all the remixes and recyling of the old Christmas carols? Do you want to focus on what Christmas really is about? Then Dan's CD is for you.
This is a beautifully orchestrated CD with some of the not so famous Christmas carols.
It evokes peace and worship, and focuses on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Christ.
The good: My favorites are In the Bleak Midwinter, winterskol, snowfall.
The bad: I could have done without this version of O tannenbaum.

After the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, kick off the shoes, put on the tree, and listen to the CD, and come back to the real meaning of Christmas. Thanks Dan.

Dan Fogelberg has taken some ancient Christmas lyrics and songs and brought them into the light again, and his original songs sound like they stepped from the same pages. Inspired by the Rennaisance, Baroque, and Medieval times, this recording has a marvelous Celtic feel. I start listening to it right after Halloween to get inspired to do my Christmas projects.
