Cyndi was along with Tina Turner, Madonna and Sade one of the few female artists to conquer the charts in the early '80's.
And if you narrow things down to pop, she and Madonna were the only two performers delivering good stuff and good performances.
Cyndi has gotten lost somehow on the way, but she is still one kind of artist that has scored BIG nevertheless.
This compilation has been released after the 1994 official one (unfortunately this version does not contain the beautiful I'M GONNA BE STRONG), and it has a couple of tracks that alone are worth the price:
WHEN YOU WERE MINE by Prince and I DON'T WANNA BE YOUR FRIEND by Diane Warren (this one version will blow you away if you own the original by Desmond Child: completley restructured in vocals and arrangements...!).
Plus, THE GOONIES R GOOD ENOUGH theme...not on the other CD.
The haunting I DROVE ALL NITE, TRUE COLORS and TIME AFTER TIME.
CHANGE OF HEART has an incredible drums backbone, as for SHE BOP.
GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN is present both in the original 1983 version and the updated 1994 one.
There is even an english cover for celine Dion's LE MONDE EST STONE - here translated by Tim Rice and called THE WORLD IS STONE.
Too bad she did not enter the tracklist HEADING WEST (a true gem), but the final result is very cool indeed.

Brilliant eighties rock

After one unsuccessful album, Cyndi recorded three albums in the eighties (She's so unusual, True colors, A night to remember) that gave her plenty of success and it is from these three albums that this compilation is mainly assembled. Some of her later albums, though less successful, are well worth hearing but it is the eighties that most people associate with Cyndi.

So, this compilation includes all of Cyndi's important hits of the eighties including Girls just want to have fun, Time after time (later covered by Eva Cassady among others), She bop, All through the night, True colors, Change of heart (with the Bangles on backing vocals), What's going on (a cover of a Marvin Gaye classic) and I drove all night (which also became a top ten UK hit for Roy Orbison).

If you just want one collection of Cyndi's music, this has all the essential eighties tracks.
