Clay Aiken - Merry Christmas With Love
Merry Christmas With Love Review
Clay Aiken may look wide-eyed and unassuming, but when it comes to figuring out what his fans want for Christmas, he's got it all figured out. On Merry Christmas with Love he so cannily anticipates the musical sugarplums dancing in the heads of his devotees that you half expect him to climb down the chimney and hand-deliver it. Key to the dozen-song collection's appeal is its straightforwardness: Parting ways with the sea of celebrities who use holiday discs as an excuse to cut loose, Aiken banishes irony and coyness so absolutely here that certain carols--the medley "Hark the Herald Angels Sing/O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night" especially--take on church-like tones; expect tree trimmers to put aside their tinsel and contemplate the meaning of the season. Yet don't expect them to miss out on any merriment. On less chestnutty selections like the ballads "Mary Did You Know" and Celine Dion's "Don't Save It All for Christmas Day," Aiken lets it rip, reining in a passion and pure-heartedness so believable that fans will wish he, rather than the guy in the red velvet suit, were Santa Claus. -Tammy La Gorce

Superb Christmas album

This will go down in history as one of the all-time best Christmas albums. From the first note sung I was astounded by Clays' fantastic vocals.... and what a great collection of songs he sings here. He was my pick to win American Idol from almost day one, and I was very unhappy when he came in second. It actually worked out in his favor though, and time has proven him the most talented anyway. I'm looking forward to listening to this every year, even in July :)

Spreading the Love at Christmas

I found this collection to be one of the best in a long time. The clarity and feeling of these songs is enhanced by the unique quality of this gifted singer's voice.

I was able to bestow "Merry Chritmas, With Love" on many of those who appeared on my Christmas list.

A definite "add to your collection".

Don't let the stars fool you!

It's not for the entire CD -I haven't heard it. I just saw him do a televised version of "Mary, Did You Know?". I'm giving this one song 3 stars. This song will become a standard for this season: simple, subtle arrangements; vocals that enter in as softly as a whisper used to rouse a sleeping baby; and lyrics that give you pause and cause to inwardly reflect. I would love this song alone as a CD single.
