Clannad - Banba
Banba Review
Though not their best effort, this 1994 release from Clannad is very good. It has a strong pop orientation, tinged with the Celtic influences that have always been a hallmark of Clannad's music. Those songs where these influences are strongest are also the strongest songs on the album; "Caide Sin Do'n Te Sin" is especially memorable, and "Na Laethe Bi" and "Banba Oir" are strong efforts as well. Of the more pop-flavored material, "Sunset Dreams" and "The Other Side" are probably the best. Banba also features "I Will Find You", which Clannad recorded for the 1992 film version of "Last of the Mohicans". --Genevieve Williams

Beautiful and memorable; lyrical and melodious

I bought this CD when it first came out and to this day it remains one of my all-time favorites. Some of the songs are hauntingly beautiful. I love the lead singer's voice.

Disappointment and pleasant surprise in one

For tracks like Na laethe Bhi, Banba Oir, Theme from the Last of Mohicans and A Gentle Place I'd give not 5, but 10 stars. But for the pop-remainings I'd hardly give 2. This is an interesting struggle of Clannad's members in making a commercial album while tradition, roots, imagination and mysterious images are trying to set themselves free from mainstream-listeners' needs. Mike Oldfield called such people "cloth-eared nincompoops". Yet somehow they manage to turn really interesting and respectable performers into worse than average.

"I Will Find You"-Last of the Mohicans isn't the only hit!

I bought this CD years ago like others for that song, but I must say that there are at least 4 other songs that I enjoyed on here. I won't say because everyone finds their own favorites. Needless to say when I'm in a Celtic mood this is own of my favorites to put on the shuffle along with "Enya" and "Yanni"

Happy Listening
