Midnight Without You Review
On paper, trumpeter Chris Botti is another smooth jazz heartthrob, a seasoned session veteran stepping out with his own mix of romantic instrumental pop. But Botti brings more care and nuance to his work than that faux category implies, and this seductive collection underlines his deeper intent in its smoky title song, a collaboration with Paul Buchanan's Scottish neo-pop band, The Blue Nile, that is sufficient excuse for entry: Buchanan's fevered yet restrained vocals answer Botti's cool, Miles-wide horn lines in a classic late-night reverie that is the set's standout, but Botti's own wordless pieces sustain the album's suave, finely crafted mood. You'll love listening to all the great tracks in this wonderful CD, which is a perfect companion for relaxation, for driving and background music for cocktail and dinner parties. To me, the most ear-catching tunes are "Regroovable," "When Rain Falls" and the title track "Midnight Without You" with Paul Buchanan presenting his vocal artistry.
Very highly recommended not only for smooth jazz lovers but also for every one who appreciates fine music and outstanding artists.
