My Dad's Coat Review
"My Dads Coat" is music written and produced for Kids and their Parents. The title track of "My Dads Coat" features the talents of well known Contemporary Christian recording artist and legendary guitarist Phil Keaggy. Phil and Chip worked together writing and arranging this song that uses an interesting analogy to encourage parents in passing their faith on to their children and kids in making this faith their own. The result is a catchy, Beatlesque sounding tune with a message that both children and parents will appreciate. Chip Richters new CD features twelve songs in all, including nine original tunes, one fresh Celtic sounding arrangement of the hymn Tis So Sweet, an interesting version of "Theyll Know We Are Christians by Our Love" and a wonderful rendering of "Spirit Song" written by New Hampshire based singer-songwriter, Bill Staines. Several songs feature the instrumental talents of well known studio musician David Johnson, recently nominated for a Dove award for his bluegrass album "Many Road to Home". Other players include some of Chips close friends Greg Aker (flute), Mike Glick (piano), Mike Rogowsky (drums), and Ginny Perkins (flute). Kate Perkins, sounding much like Allison Krauss, adds some very artistic and tasteful background vocals to many of the tracks. Also lending a hand on background vocals a group of students from Heartland Christian School in Columbiana. We think this is the best work from Chip Richter to date. The feeling of the whole project is very folky and rootsy in nature. From the very Celtic sounding Tis So Sweet to the contemporary "new grass" sound of Labybugs Livingroom to the jazzy swing feel of Love, Love, Love
theres something here the whole family will enjoy. And that is Chips goal, to write and produce music for kids and their parents.
