Before listening to this Cd I was studying for the priesthood. After one listen I was grabbing for a racing form, breaking open some Johnny Black, and developing a strong desire to slap around some papparazi.
Oh yeah, some white guy named Baker blows in the back.

HOW DID THE WORLD MISS OUT?

Interestingly enough, after more than 30 years, this man still give me chills. When I was 16 or 17 and playing in a rock'n'roll band in the early 60's, a friend turned me onto this album. Since then, and into 2002, I still find this recording one of my personal favorites (and I have over 30,000 vinyl albums in my collection) -- when I play it for friends, they can't believe they've never heard him or that he is not a giant in the music industry. To quickly summate, as I could rave for hours, my only complaint is that the musicians are not listed. Chet Baker's band is great, and with Johnny's vocals on great standards (some more recognizable than others)that range from swing to bop to ballads, you don't have to be a jazz junkie or have an ear for quality music - just to have ears that do not only hear, but listen! Listening to Johnny Pace sing is not only a healing experience, but a pure pleasure.
