A true pop gem!

I like most people have purchased this cd because of the Wall Street Journal article. How can a company spend all that money and not break an artist? That's another story. This is probably the best sounding pop cd in some time. The stand outs are "just missed the train"...what a vocal range this girl has...just gorgeous. Also "i'm gonna blow your mind" is a joy to behold. I can't recommend this cd enough. Don't miss this!!!

She's gonna blow your mind.

I've been intrigued by Greg Alexander since I first heard "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too". It seems he has been touched by the "Big Music" as Waterboy, Mike Scott, would put it. Although I have found no formal connections between these two artists, the resemblances are definitely too similar too miss.
This is "Big Music". Very layered, very indulgent pop. Pop for the soul. The themes are not trivial. The consequences are not menial. This is life, living and feeling.
Carly does a great job singing these songs, and the production is fantastic. If you're a fan of this kind of music, it will definitely appeal to you. If you're not, you'll probably miss it, unless you catch someone else's version of one of these songs done much subtler, with much less immediacy, and find that it is some brilliant songwriting. Which leads me to my only criticsm of this, and other work done by the people involved with this record, which is that there is so much build-up, so many layers, so much importance, that sometimes...sometimes the message gets through with a less is more approach.
If you enjoy the "Big Music" then this is a great record for you. If you're looking for a catchy "pop" record, I can see how it might've been missed by the majority of the music listening public.
If you like the New Radicals, World Party, Waterboys, early Sophie B. Hawkins, or, of course Danielle Brisebois, you''ll love this album.

The Great Lost Danielle Brisebois Album!!

Let's see...Dani's singing backgrounds on every cut. She wrote or co-wrote nearly every song. She produced half the cuts. And her sometimes-partner, the great Gregg Alexander, produced and wrote the rest. Plus, Carly is a tremendous singer in her own right. How can this be selling for 69 cents in the cutout bin?
Scoop this up -- if you like Dani or Joan Osbourne or the New Radicals, you'll like this disc.
