Boney James - Boney's Funky Christmas
Boney's Funky Christmas Review
Taking, perhaps, his cue from Kenny G, tenor saxman Boney James's silky tone and mainstream arrangements of nine seasonal standards take few risks on the improvisational front. Instead, James sails through such fare as "The Christmas Song," the grooving "This Christmas," and similar accounts. Reduced to its common elements, Funky Christmas is merely barroom funky, if not a little seductive. And therein lies this cat's charm: bedroom eyes. Perfect for that holiday date you've finally managed to make, Funky Christmas is an easy-listening set that will make ol' Santa think twice before he slips back up the chimney and out into the cold. --Martin Keller

A Jazzy smooth Christmas

I begin playing Boney's Funky Christmas from December 1st until January 1st. I love it! And I can't even remember how many copies of this CD I have purchased for my friends and family as a pre-Christmas gift. I always give it out a few weeks before Christmas so that they can really have time to enjoy it before the season ends. The entire CD is great, but if I had to pick a favorite track, it would be #9 (God rest ye merry gentlemen), followed by track #7 (Let it snow) as a close (very close) second. So go pick it up...enjoy, and Happy Holidays!

The only holiday CD you need

Since Funky Christmas was released in 1999, this is the ONLY holiday CD I listen to. Five years straight. If you're feeling like Scrooge...put this on...you'll be smiling within minutes.
Really. I start playing it in November...and if truth be told, I'm still listening part of January. Bobby Caldwell's version of" What are you doing New Year's Eve" brings forth visions of a sparkly night...plus enthusiasm for the beginning of the New Year. Oh.. trust me...you'll love it.

Gals . . . dress yourself in Cashmere and your living room in the soft glow of only the fireplace and the tiny lights from a fragrant pine tree. Make your best martini and wrap yourself in the strong arms of your man; then, turn on this CD. Mr. James is extremely generous on this album as he offers gift after gift after gift to the fortunate listener.

You'll need absolutely no mistletoe during Boney's satin-smooth "Christmas Time Is Here," and you'll surely be playing Bobby Caldwell's combo with Boney, "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" long after the New Year has bid her worthy 'hello'. I purchased the album after hearing Boney's rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" but fell absolutely in love with the entire CD.

Buy this album and celebrate next year's holidays in velvet style. Whether you're entertaining his parents or dear friends he's yet to be introduced to, everyone will enjoy and you're sure to have happy holidays with Mr. James and the group of incredibly talented friends he'll bring with him to your next holiday dinner party.
