Aqua's Smashing New Album - Aquarius
5
Another fantastic album from Danish group Aqua coming yourway. Just as good or even better than Aqua's first album, Aquarium,Aquarius is more than a mere album. Behind the cute lyrics of the songs there are deeper literary meanings and social comments. The best tracks on this cd are Cartoon Heroes, Back From Mars and Bumble Bees. Cartoon Heroes is a really cute song which talks about cartoon characters such as Spiderman and Superman. Back From Mars is a track about life as it would be in Mars. Bumble Bees is the typical Aqua style sex education that we've all come to expect of the band. All these tracks have very well thought out lyrics and groovy rhythms. Other nice tracks include Around The World and An Apple A Day. Halloween is a really interesting track, with creative use of music and the classic Aqua lyrics. Do not dismiss Freaky Friday as just another country song. It is actually a mockery of country songs as only Aqua can do it. You just have to listen to it. Not the whole album is upbeat though. There are two nice ballads : We Belong To The Sea and Aquarius. We Belong To The Sea has a wonderful and moving melody. Aquarius lets the lead singer Lene show off her magnificent vocal skills. I never knew Aqua could do such great ballads. There are only two lousy songs on the album. These are the latin styled Cuba Libre and the slow ballad Goodbye To The Circus, which seems to have no more meaning than the suggestion that Aqua will be back soon with another album. The vocals of Lene and Rene, the lead singers, are as wonderful as ever. Music by Claus and Soren is full of life. The cd doesn't get boring after some time; you could go on playing it for months. This is definitely for Aqua fans and those who like Toy-box, Dr. Bombay, Vengaboys etc.
