Amy Winehouse - Frank
Frank Review
Aged just nineteen, Amy Winehouse has caused great ripples in the UK urban music scene. With a voice that falls happily in with any one of the contemporary greats whilst somehow managing to sound entirely unique, Amy's smoky soul stylings are set to turn the ripples to a storm. 'Frank', her debut set, is an empowering collection of independence anthems all laid down with the kind of maturity & inflection that make the likes of, say, Norah Jones such a tantalizing proposition. Furthermore, with the likes of Giles Peterson championing her cause, it won't be long until the world is gently awakened to the Winehouse way of doing things. This UK version features an exclusive bonus track, 'Moody's Mood For Love'. Island. 2003.
Frank Review
Amy Winehouse's Debut Album Represents her World and her Soul, a Collision Between 21st Century London's Urban Soundscapes, the Great Jazz Voices of the Last Century, and the Emotional Experiences of a 19 Year Old Girl with a Lot to Say. The Sound of her Voice is the Sound of Chicago in the 40's. Winehouse's Music is Fresh, Engaging and Irresistable, Subtle and Charming, Funny and So Smooth that Half her Wit Passes You by on the First Listen.

hits the core

Aged 52, I bought this CD mainly to hear what today's young people's taste is like.
Having listened to 'Frank' several times, I am not disappointed. This CD provides a perfect reflection of today's mentality: a very strong individualism, with consequently a low sense of community. And, an Amy Winehouse not afraid of expressing her annoyance with some males around her.
Musically I think 'Frank' quite adequate. But its strong point remains its hitting of today's mood to the very core.

Frank, the new album by jazz singer Amy Winehouse, is outstanding. This piece of work is a unique twist that combines jazz, blues, dub, funk, and in some mild ways (specifically the beats) dare I say: hip-hop. She has a natural and incredible voice, and she uses it to convey honest heartfelt, and very juicy lyrical content. The production value is also top-notch, and you will enjoy bumping-up this one. I can't help but to think of Lauren Hill when I listen to this: there's something about Amy's pure voice cutting over those beats. The lack of availability of this album in the USA surprises me since its obvious she is going to blow up and sell multi-platinum. First industry exec to market this thing in the USA wins! Support this fantastic new talent by buying Frank, even at import prices. Here are 5 tasty and diverse picks for your 5-disc CD changer: Frank, The Miseducation Of Lauren Hill, Do You Want More?, Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi, Pure Ella: The Very Best of Ella Fitzgerald.
