This was Alice Cooper's breakthrought album. They got their first hit I'm eighteen and found their classic sound. Average customer review of this album is full five stars too and it is quite popular and seems to be in many lists in the Amazon.com. So this album is probably breathtaking and absolutely fantastic. No. That's not true at all. This album is mostly average detroit garage rock with catchy choruses, but with nothing exceptional to offer.
I'm not saying this album is bad. I'm eighteen is classic AC hit, thought it sounds a lot better in live. This album actually has few brilliant moments, that make this album a must have for fans. Black Juju has a doomy atmosphere and a voodoo spirit. It is a very good epic prog metal song (and very creepy too). Second coming has very eerie lyrics and music. The perfect melody just flows into Ballad of dwight fry, which is one of the top5 songs Alice has ever written. When I feel that I'm going insane I listen to this song. It is a concert classic and perfect song about insanity (This song sounds better in live too).
Rest of the songs are not brilliant. A cover of Sun arise is pretty forgettable. Is it my body and Long way to go are simply bad songs. Caught in a dream is OK and Hallowed be my name lacks something. Alice was too much a side man in this project and that is why this album isn't as good as people say it is. The follower of this album is much better because then Alice was already a leader of the band. His vocal performance is also better in Killer. This album has some of the best material band has ever written, but it is overrated.

Alice Cooper - 'Love It To Death' (Warner Brothers)
5
Originally released in early 1971,this was the band's third lp.A bit different than their previous two efforts 'Pretties For You' and 'Easy Action'(see my reviews of both).'Love It...' was the first record that Alice and crew had producer Bob Ezrin on board.Every track here shines, totally rips and pulls your senses in with all it's strength. If an lp COULD take on a life force of it's own,'Love It To Death' could do some real damage.Tunes that you'll want to hear repeatedly are the rockers, the smash hit "I'm Eighteen","Caught In A Dream" and "Long Way To Go".Then there are the two epics, the mysterious somewhat Door-ish "Black Juju"(I mean what IS that with 'Bodies ....need rest, bodies need rest?')and the mental ward anthem "Ballad Of Dwight Fry".Heavy metal ahead of its time,a true '70's classic. An absolute must-have.

What a talented man
1
What can you say about Alice Cooper, he wears makeup, and he used to make s**t music. He thinks he's some kind of rebel aginst society because he used to tell kids thet school's out for ever. In actual fact he just looks like a tranny, I couldn't respect any man who wears that much make up.
I give every song on this album 0/10, even though i've never heard any of them, but that doesn't seem to be a requirement on Amazon. Just ask YO, his review is about a page on from mine, he rates a lot of hip hop as 1 star, it doesn't matter whether he's heard it before, he rates it anyway. He's heard a few songs by talentless c**p like Nelly, P Diddy and 5-0 and thinks that qualifies him as a hip hop expert. Newsflash, it doesn't, until you have listened to some proper lyricists, just lay off your reviews. I mean how can you give all hip hop albums 1 star then say Alice Cooper is great, oh yeah he's a real lyrical genious.
If you keep reviewing stuff you've never heard, just out of your own prejudice, you have to expect that other people will do the same to albums you like, and that makes everyone unhappy. Someone who actually likes the same music as him should e-mail him and tell him to stop being a retard, otherwise the average ratings of albums you like will start to fall. YO spend more time on your makeup and finding nice womens clothes to wear, and stay off of hip hop, fa*got.
